This has been an especially exciting week in Shale, full of discovery and playfulness. Lots of exciting changes have been made in the room as well, it has been rearranged in order for our friends to be able to easily access all the materials on the shelves, as well as open spaces to run and express our bodies through gross motor play. The Shale educators are excited for all the new changes as well, feels like a breath of fresh air to be able to explore a more open environment. We are excited to test and develop both our fine and gross motor skills through a variety of provocations.
As the weather has begun to cool down, so has our entire centre with the installation of the air conditioning finally complete. It was a busy week all around with activities such as water splashing and trying to collect all the bubbles as well as visiting our community park with Sarah and Neha.
Throughout this week, we also continued our exploration of the vast painting techniques. Art activities are the basis for providing our friends with exposure to multiple experiences and practice in developing and refining their gross motor/fine motor skills. Art thereby involves both the physical and manipulative properties when pertaining to the muscle movements in our bodies. Not to mention that participating in messy play allows for our friends to develop these skills and enhance them through a fun experience such as our shaving cream paint provocation. During this activity, Emily and Alex rolled the rollers into the shaving cream, but soon started slapping their hands in the paint resulting paint flying everywhere. Alex had yellow spots all over her faces and Emily’s legs were covered in paint. It was such a simple yet such a laughter filled experience, that we cant wait to extend it through other multi modal means and see what else we can create.
With all the messy play this week, please ensure your child has extra clothes in their locker.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! See you on Monday.
