Welcome back to Sandstone after the long weekend, we hope everyone enjoyed their time with friends and family!
This week we started on a building project. We have observed over the past few weeks the interests of constructing, miniature world play, and cars. We took this interests and decided to put it all together and make a city with the children. We brought in a big box, it sat on our shelf and the children discussed throughout the morning how we could build a city with it. In the afternoon Paulette sat down with the children and pulled out a tool box, we found the perfect tool to cut the cardboard, a saw! Hand over hand she helped the children cut the box until it was cut in half. Over the next few days we slowly added to the construction: first we painted a backdrop, then we glued on trees, the children decided it needed a door to close up at night so the bad guys couldn’t get in. Finally we finished and we could start to build towers and houses in it. We used Lego to construct these and spent the rest of the morning playing in our city! Wow that was so much work to construct a small city, no wonder there is always so much construction around Edmonton!
This week we made one of the children’s favorite breakfast foods, butter! The children have been mastering the skill of opening the individual packs of butter that we get at breakfast. It has been tricky scooping the butter then holding the toast/muffin in one hand and spreading the butter with the other. We tried making it and used a jar, we shook the cream until it separated from the milk and became a solid. We had to shake for a very long time! We sang songs as we took turns shaking the jar, finally it was done. We had a mid morning snack of crackers and butter. Mmm it was yummy! What do you like to make at home? We would love to hear about your favorite family recipies. We would like to create a family display in our classroom. We would love it if you brought in a family picture or emailed one to us at primrose@telus.net Have a wonderful weekend in the snow!
