In spite of the short week, we had a week full of busy fun activities. The week started with a new student teacher coming into the room. Jayme from McEwan University’s Early Learning and Child Care program started week 1 of her placement. Jayme was with us all week learning from Emily and Neha about the intricacies and everyday routines of Jasper. Her observations focused on learning how to support Jasper rooms interests and expand our learning through multi modal mediums. Jayme then transformed the dramatic play area and turned it into a dress up clothing extravaganza! She had books on dressing up in disguise and story telling to showcase all the clothes for us to try on. The children enjoyed making connections between what they had read and applied it to their play. It was great to see our friends embrace our new Educator and are looking forward to more experiences with her. As the week came to an end, we said see you later to Jayme on Friday, as she will be heading back to MacEwan and but will return in November for a couple of weeks. We look forward to having her come back to explore and play with us some more.
As the seasons change, the weather will soon turn our landscape into a winter wonderland. We first got a taste of this winter weather on Tuesday. Emily braved the morning cold air and filled the water table full of fresh snow. We used eye droppers and food colouring to carry out some mini experiments. Our conclusion led to us determining that the snow changed from a crispy, fresh white to a mixture of every colour that we mixed together which then turned into a big pile of black snowy mush. We cannot wait for more snow to fill our play yard so that we can start to create snow forts and giant snowmen to protect our yard while we are away during the cold winter nights. With the right type of snow we hope to create our own winter city in our play-yard.
Towards the end of the week, we were all dressed up in our best clothes for picture day. We even practiced our smiles, the photographer helped to make us feel silly during our sessions which led to big smiles all around. We are also so excited to see our class photo, what a great memory it will create for us. We ended the week with finger painting, using our fingers to mix the colours and blend them. We love using our hands to explore art and using our fingers to manipulate paint really allows us to understand how it works with the added excitement of just being able to be messy. With the weather getting chilly, please bring in all winter gear. This includes hat, gloves, snow pants, boots and a warm jacket. Have a great snowy weekend!
