Welcoming families back from holidays, new friends and teachers to the room has made for a very exciting time in Sandstone this week! The past few days have been stimulating for all of us as we start to discover all the different centres in the room. We have expanded our dramatic corner as there has been an increasing interest in taking care of others. In this area the children have used baskets to put the babies to sleep, they used extra towels to make beds and pat each others backs to take a little naps. If your hungry then just have a seat at the table and a quick meal will be made for you by the many different cooks in the kitchen.
In the water table we have been testing out different sizes of containers. Which ones hold the most amount of water? What ones fit into the others? and How to make the water more or less in the container? A fun way that we found to remove some of the water from the container was to move it in a quick upwards motion. When we did this the water jumped out and splashed down!!! Later, we took the containers outside where there was no water to fill them up with but we found little cherries all on the ground. The children quickly got to work gathering them up in their containers. The children called out to the birds to come eat the “bird berries” they had gathered. Inara was quite concerned that the “birds weren’t listening to her words” as they flew high above the children and not coming to their calls to eat the berries. Well if the birds weren’t going to eat the berries then what else could we do with them? A few fell down the drain and made a popping sound as it hit the water. Soon we were all dropping them down the drain and pressing our ears down to hear the different noises the cherries made.
Don’t forget we will be CLOSED this Monday for the long weekend! See you all Tuesday!
