This week in sandstone we have started on a revistation of the big idea of movement; with a focus on body movement, liquid movement, and incline movement. To explore body movement we will be taking many trips to the different parks in the comunity to help build up our gross motor skills. The variety of bridges, climbers, swings, and slides provides ample opportunity to expand on these skills. With liquid movement we will be using many funnels, the tubes, bowls, ramps, and lots of different mediums to pour with. Incline movement will be explored by testing out different heights and materials we can make inclines out of, as well as different mediums we can use on the inclines.
On Friday we set up a wax paper ramp experience. This experience touched on every aspect of movement we have started to explore. The children used eye droppers to drop coloured water on the wax paper. Eye droppers are an excellent way to develop fine motor skills and a pincher grasp. Hand eye coordination is also being used as they drop the liquid onto the wax paper. The children then watch the coloured water flow down the ramp. We talked about how the different colours collided together and how some drops seemed to go faster than others. What a fun experience!
Have a great weekend!
