A week of new discovery has been happening in the Sandstone room. The children began by taking a new path to a new park this week with Jen and Sam. When the children got back they shared their adventure with us which include getting to wacth a tree get cut down and they were trying to find the big bad wolf! How exciting is that! and the children The next day we decided to go on another adventure. We started with a walk and singing the song “Were going on a bear hunt” that we learned last week in music with Dawn. As we started our jouney on a new path we decided to see if we could find a park that we haven’t been to before. We walked down by the gas station and then crossed the busy road. We waited at the cross walk patiently and then when we saw the flashing lights and the vehicles stop we knew we could cross safely. We ventured into the neighbourhood where we saw a school and discovered a orange and blue park! There were so many things to do at this park which included a restaurant station, swings and really fast slides. All the sandstone children had fun at the park and we cannot wait to visit it again. Through exploring the neighbourhood children are practicing their walking skills. Often we are tired by the end of our walks but these opportunities provide the children the space to release their energy in a variety of outdoor places (PPP, 2014, p.96).
We also explored how paint moves in different ways. We set up a provocation for the children with paper and a ramp with some eye droppers. At first the children were trying to paint with the eye droppers but then the realization of making paint drips happened. We noticed how if we dripped paint at the top of the ramp it would slide down making a path. Then we could also use other colors and they would mix together creating all new types of paths. Sandstone children are learning the many different ways to explore with materials as they playfully explore and investigate what the materials can do. Through this we notice lots of cause and effect discovery. (PPP, 2014, p.100). As we watched the children make the paint drips you could see how they intentionally placed their drops in order to watch the paint run down the ramp. Make sure to check out the creation we made using paint in this way hanging in the classroom. We will continue to explore with different materials and discover what kind of pathways we can make.
Have a wonderful weekend, hope to see you on Saturday!
