Between mud puddles and the never ending rain, the weather has been a big influence on what Quartz has been up to this week.
We started off by watching thunder storms and tornados on the iPad to see what was happening with the clouds and what other weather phenomenons can happen. Watching these storms made us inquire about how we could make our on rain storm! Armed with eye droppers, shaving cream, plain water and blue water – we created our own! It was so neat to watch the way the materials mixed together; be on the look out for a learning story next week!
We’ve noticed that with the rain it is becoming a bit cooler, so sweaters, jacket, rain boots and splash pants are becoming needed and we love to dress our selves up in our gear and then of course undress ourselves, but it is a great self help skill that we are developing. If parents could please send full rain gear, that would be wonderful as we do try to spend as much time outside as possible!
To take charge in the rain, a group of friends went with Kerry and a small group from Sandstone went on a long walk in the rain to splash in puddles! That was SO much fun!
If your children have come home saying that they have eaten flowers, that’s because they have! Kerry brought in some edible flowers and herbs from her garden; the aroma of mint, citronella, sage and lavender filled the air. While the beautiful colours of the squash flowers brightened our water table.
We used these herbs to not only taste, but to continue our mactac art from our sunflowers and wild flowers, even cutting up some mint to add to water to make ice cubes for our afternoon snack! There are endless possibilities for what we could do with all these herbs, next week we will dive deeper.
Ava, Taryn, Parker, Roman, June and Kinley have been visiting from Shale room to help them transition to Quartz – they all fit in so well, we have no worries about them! Our friends, Evelyn, Isla, Inara, James, Susanna and Estella have been starting their own visits to Sandstone, not only will we miss them, but Michelle too, as she starts her new adventure in Shale. With open arms we welcomed Erin into our classroom, as she has been having her own transition into Quartz!
Have a fantastic weekend
