Our main focus this week was to begin construction on our milk jug igloo. The kids have been so excited to begin this part of the project and have had many questions regarding how we put it together and make it strong. We began by gathering our cardboard floor and piecing it together to make a large square. The kids helped trim the edges of the cardboard and used the extra pieces to add to their play in house corner and art. Then we began hot glueing the jugs together in curved rows to form our circle. The kids have decided the size of the igloo and because of the size we are going to have to build it piece by piece inside and carry them outside. so far there is three rows of milk jugs and more to come! Keep an eye out in the play yard construction zone for its progress.
Other than the igloo project, we have spent some time testing out our new art materials. We got new markers, pastels, water colours and multicoloured crayons in our art corner. The kids have really been stretching their imaginations, experimenting with all different mediums which has been wonderful to see. Everyone was very excited to welcome Molly back on Tuesday from her 3 week trip to Australia. They were eager to hear if she got to swim with kangaroos and koalas in the ocean, under the hot Australian sun. 🙂
Next week is sure to be busy. We will be welcoming a new MacEwan student for the week and going on an exciting adventure together on Thursday. We will be suiting up and taking our sleds to go tobogganing together. Please remember to sign your name on our form. It is located on our front door. If anyone has extra helmets and sleds they are willing to let us borrow for the morning that would be fantastic!
