BBBRRRRRRR!! The start of October has been a chilly one! In Jasper we have noticed the cooler mornings and have been dressing warm with hats and gloves anytime we go outside to play and explore but when inside we are keeping warm by running around doing interesting experiences and lots of yoga.
We started off the week welcoming fall into the room with fall colour painting and books. The leaves have been flying around the yard, so we all worked together with the help of our Sandstone friends and created a massive leaf pile to jump into. It was so much fun jumping into the pile that some of us fell over then got buried in the leaves. We tried to execute different types of gross motor skills such as two-footed jumps followed by a gallop into the pile as well as one-footed jump into the mass of leaves. The paintings we created used a new type of painting medium, it was not like any normal paint we have used before. It was spice paint that Emily made, it smelled like cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla and cloves. The whole room had a warm cozy feeling due to the smell of the paint. Perfect feeling to warm us up on a cool October day.
From the spice paint and using our noses to figure out which paint was which spice, our senses have been on high demand in our exploration of things in the room. In the water table we had different bags filled with different liquid solutions. The bags opened up and allowed us to feel and see how oil and water separated, how soap bubbles felt so light in our hands and how corn-starch and water makes a gooey slimy mess. We love getting our hands messy, it is a fun way to learn about different properties of liquid and test our theories.
Friday has been the talk of the room all week. We have been over the moon excited about getting to wear our pajamas and to watch a documentary about storms and space. Storms have been a really big interest and Emily even showed us how you can see hurricanes from space! We have been shifting our questions and interests from weather towards space and the possibilities for us to learn and explore space is truly out of this world! Who knows where our spaceship of ideas and questions will take us next but we are ready for the adventures into the uncharted world of space.
Have a great thanksgivings weekend. We will be closed on Monday so we will see you all on Tuesday 🙂
