Movement! This week in Jasper was filled with movement. Our friends have really come to love our song jar and all of the songs in it. It has inspired quite a bit this past week. The children have brought it outside to share our best singing voices with all the different classrooms at Primrose which has made for some wonderful multi-age experiences. It has also inspired our friends to engage in some role playing. “Primrose Play” has been a reoccurring imaginative dramatic play experience throughout the last five days. Usually Ada and Katrina have taken on the roll as “Sarah and Neha” and our other friends have joined in playing the roles of the “Jasper friends”. They have recreated our team talks, meal times, and their favourite – nap time. It has been interesting as an educator to sit back and observe the children’s perception of how these transition times happen in Jasper. Each child has made sure to role play differently than their usual habits and have all taken cues from each other and other children at Primrose. Katrina and Ada’s rolls as “Sarah and Neha” have been especially comical for us to observe!
Along with song jar, the pavement of water has been a huge influence for them this week. We constructed a large river waterfall using our eavestrough, rope and running water. Everyone at Primrose has been actively engaging with this feature in the play space as it has encouraged many imaginative play scenarios! We will continue this exploration into next week to see where it takes us!
A huge accomplishment was made by our Jasper team this week. We reached our “Jem in a Jar” goal and were able to have our pajama day! Friday we got to all cozy up in our favourite pajamas, slippers and stuffies. We built a fort filled with pillows to enjoy some stories together. Sarah’s mom from Saskatchewan even mailed us a special “Back to School” story to help us get ready the new adventures some of our friends are soon embarking on. It was a wonderful way to end our week! Our next “gem in a jar” goal is toy from home day!
Have a wonderful weekend, see you back here on Monday!
