What a fantastic week in Jasper room! We’ve been extremely busy, exploring new and exciting ideas. One of those ideas was role playing. We have all been very interested in mimicking and acting out every day moments as different characters. To encourage this, Neha and Sarah built “Primrose Theatre” outside in the play yard. It was a hit and all of the Jasper friends immediately started to perform a wonderful show. Some of the seniors in our building came out and sat on their balconies to watch. They cheered and applauded the children’s singing, dancing and acting. It was fantastic to see this happen so organically, you could tell the children felt proud. To continue this play, we gave the children the option to bring in costumes. Feel free to bring them in throughout the next week!
This week we finally got to explore the lobster! Thanks to Wayne and Chantal Duval for bringing in a hot plate for us to use and to Lana for letting us use her big pot! Our Jasper friends were VERY excited to explore the lobster. We talked about a lobsters body and each individual part that helps a lobster move. We discussed a lobsters habitat and families. After getting to feel the lobsters hard shell and pinchers, we started discussing how and why people like to enjoy lobster as a meal. We discussed what happens when you cook a lobster; how and why it changes colours and why it makings a screaming noise. We put it in the pot and it took a long time to cook but once it was done, a few of us enjoyed its taste! Wyatt, Talin, Bennet and Charlie all tried it and they mostly loved it! It was a wonderful experience and we are really happy we got to explore it together. It was very windy on Thursday, but we made the most of it by learning a new parachute game, Sharks and Lifesavers. Sue and Sarah played it with Jasper, Sandstone and Quartz friends in the play yard. It was great to learn a new game together! We also got a new turtle kite to try and fly – but it was a bit too windy! We will try again next week. Neha is on another adventure, this time she is in Vancouver to visit her family. We asked her if she could bring back some gigantic leaves from Stanley Park for us! We ended this week with a visit from Dawn. We always have a wonderful time getting musical with her! Have a great weekend!
