This week in shale we continued on our exploration of sounds, how we can make sounds using our bodies and how objects around us make different sounds in the way we use them. This week we enjoyed banging on the drums and the tambourine, exploring the ringing noise the triangles made hanging on the shelf when we tapped them and enjoying some of our new shaker bottles that we created together. We explored quiet with feathers and loud with different sizes of washers. Shale explored coloring on bubble wrap which was interesting when the children pressed hard enough the bubble wrap popped! OH WHAT AN INTERESTING SOUND!!! Shale enjoyed climbing at the park and sliding on the slide, we also enjoyed exploring the fallen leaves on the ground and the crinkly noise they made. We explored playing with pine cones in the water table the bumpy texture felt so neat on our hands. On Thursday we explored laughing at the lunch table in different tones the children enjoyed expressing their laughter with one another and we sang a new song at the lunch table. “ Hungry hungry I am hungry! Table table here I come! I could eat a goosemooseburger, 15 pickles and a purple plum as we banged on the table while we waited for lunch how exciting this process was for the children! We enjoyed going on a walk around the block as we listened to the different animals and cars going by! We explored sticking loose materials on MAC TACK in a defined setting on little strips, last week we did one big sheet together. It was interesting to watch the children explore the stickiness of the material and watch how they explored in a defined and an undefined setting. We explored listening to the scratching noises of the microphone on the boom box that was very interesting to hear our voices in an echo form! Stay tuned for our continuation of exploration of the sounds over the next weeks in shale.
