This week in Shale Room, we continued our exploration of birds! Not only are the children enjoying exploring birds and their natural surroundings, the teachers are also enjoying being able to join in the exploration and learning. For about the past month, the children have really been interested in looking out the window in the room to find birds in the tree right outside. So we watched as Paulette climbed the tree outside and placed two bird feeders in the tree. We have been having fun watching the birds eat at the bird feeders! We have also begun learning about how birds use sticks and grass and other materials they find to build their nests. On Monday, we went for a walk through the community and collected sticks, grass, and pinecones in a bucket. When we brought them back into the classroom, we used plasticine, along with sticks, pinecones, and shredded paper to create our own birds’ nests! We have really enjoyed exploring birds and we are excited to find out what else we can learn!
