Its all about our Eyes, Feet, Hands, and Hair! We have discovered so much about our bodies this week in Jasper Room. On Monday we continued our exploration about eyes by painting them and taking a closer look at all the parts of the eye that we would have to include in our paints; pupil, eyelashes, iris, sclera, and our eye lids. Later on in the week we took a closer look at our hands and feet. How are ours different from other peoples? We grabbed some magnifying glasses and check them out. We noticed “WRINKLES” and “LINES”. We wanted to find an easier way to compare each of the children finger and footprints. We gathered black paint and made our prints. The children enjoyed their finger prints but they seemed to enjoy creating their footprints even more… Maybe because children aren’t exposed to exploring with their feet as much as their hands?!?! On Friday, we put the footprints down on the floor and the children investigated. They used magnifying glasses to look at the wrinkles and lines, they stepped on other children’s footprints and they had conversations about if their feet were bigger or smaller than other children s. Next week we will continue our exploration about these amazing body parts and see what else the children can discover.
Super Hero Meeting Update: This week we had two meetings; Tuesday and Friday morning. I reintroduced the comparison between fiction and non fiction beings. I had flash cards to help the children identify each of the beings and we charted these so the children could have a visual and make the connection between the two. I also brought in some How to draw comics and comic books for the children to explore. We talked about the three parts of a story, movie, and book; the beginning, middle, and end. It was interesting to discover that the children didn’t know about these three parts until I gave them an example. I have now started reading a comic to the children, I just read the beginning and then we had a discussion about it. Next week we will read the middle!
