This week in sandstone we have fully immersed ourselves in buildings! Tall buildings, long buildings, short buildings etc. We started out by exploring shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles and diamond shapes. We traced the shapes on paper, and discussed what the shapes were and where we see them on buildings. We than printed off different buildings you find around the city of Edmonton and displayed them on a table beside a basket of blocks, we encouraged the children to build their own towers while using the pictures for inspiration. We also have observed the children really enjoy building sand castles outside in the play space, so we decided to bring that into the classroom; we poured water in the sand table and provided buckets and shovels to make larger scale sand castles and buildings in the sand. We have really seen lots of wonderful exploration in Sandstone this week, great conversations going on between the children and lots of turn taking! The children are always singing songs with one another, a crowd favorite right now is Alice the Camel and our favorite book besides Pete the Cat is The Pout-Pout Fish with his Pout-Pout face!! I’m sure they can repeat that story for you if you ask .Have a Wonderful Long Weekend! We are looking forward to continuing our exploration of buildings and cannot wait to see where the children take us next!!
