This week in Quartz Room we have been busy doing lots with sensory experiences and exploring with our hands. We have been playing in the water table and trying new materials in there, we started out by adding shredded cotton in the water and added blue food coloring to make it look like snow! (trick our minds into thinking it was actually cool in the room J) it was interesting to see the cotton soak up all the water like a sponge and turn blue, but then we realized you can squeeze out all the water and the cotton would turn white again! We also did lots of painting this week, instead of just painting on paper, we brought in Styrofoam blocks and painted on those, we used our hands to paint on it and felt the smooth and bumpy textures as we painted. To add on to all this sensory explosion, we also made a big batch of gak and played with that! It was very slimy and sticky! We were creating many unique shapes out of the gak, some friends were creating snakes and worms and would tell everyone to be quiet because “shh, the snake is sleeping!” while others were draping the gak around their wrists to make bracelets and watches. We also held the gak up to see how far we could get it too stretch! It was lots of fun watching the children’s imaginations run wild and too see what sort of things they could create with the gak!
