This week has been all about turtles and crabs! We began our week talking about sea turtles and discussing what they look like and how they feel. We extended our learning by creating our own sea turtles using paper plates, paint and construction paper. We discovered that sea turtles have four flipper like legs, a long neck and a little tail. We have enjoyed observing our “pet turtles” in their jar, although we still haven’t decided on names. Today we made crabs with our hands. We practiced making them scuttle along the floor and we learned that crabs move sideways, not forwards and backwards. After practicing with our hands we used our hands to create handprint crabs! We dipped our whole hands in red paint and then with the heels of our hands touching and our fingers spread out we transferred them to the paper. After letting it dry we painted glue on the bottom of the paper and then sprinkled sand on to make a beach for our crabs to scuttle around on. Next week we are looking forward to exploring some sensory experiences involving goop, slime and ice!
