This week Jasper Room began their exploration of BUGS! When we were outside playing the Jasper children explored the grass and leaves for ladybugs and ants. They also noticed a bird was building a nest in an alcove underneath our window. This began a discussion about what birds eat (worms & berries) and what they need to build a nest (twigs, mud & grass). The children collected sticks and piled them together to create their own nests. Inside we continued this exploration by discussing where different types of bugs live. On Thursday we read a story about a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. We surprised the children by showing them a butterfly house and a container full of caterpillars. Over the next few weeks we will observe and document the changes as the caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies.
