What a week! There has been a lot of emerging interests in the room, and with the week of observations, it was difficult to narrow it down. With that being said, we have noticed a large interest in light and shadow. A few of our friends have been interested in turning lights off and on, and some have noticed their shadows on the floor. We have also enjoyed some simple sensory experiences such as glitter sand, cutting playdoh( which also helps build on fine motor skills!), flubber, and a science experience with coloured vinegar and how it reacts with different materials like shaving cream, cornstarch, baking soda and flour.
As well, a small group of children joined Michelle in the beginnings of the journey of a colour inquiry. We began by exploring black and white, as well as simple brush stroke techniques. We also read the book “Black Cat, White Cat” to help extend an interest in the idea. We will be building in depth on how these “colours” make us feel, how they are able to relate to them, and how we can, or can’t, create them. We will then be exploring primary colours and building on it from there.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Stay warm!
