It has been an exciting week in Jasper Room, we started the week off by creating a tent-like structure in our book corner… The fabrics were of different textures which led to the discussion of what kind of playscape the children want to have in our room. Our student teacher Larissa had a lengthy discussion with the children regarding what they imagined the playscape could compose of. There was a lot of consensus on an underwater theme with a focus on sunken ships and sea creatures. Soon our book corner was transformed into an ocean with many different kinds of fish that the children drew as well we added some plants as our seaweed and some jewels and seashells. The children also requested for books on anything that related to the oceans so we made a trip to our resource library and selected a variety of fiction and non-fiction stories.
On Tuesday some of our friends took a trip to the Manor to read with the seniors, it was great to see the interactions between the children and the seniors, once the books were read the children decided to draw some pictures to give to the seniors. On Wednesday our water table was filled with shredded paper, Ada and some friends decided that they would climb into the table, cover themselves with the paper and jump out at unsuspecting friends and teachers who walked by, this led to some giggles and laughs. This was followed by exploring some wonderfully slippery water beads which Larissa made for us, the children decided to add measuring cups and fish into the beads so that they could give the fish baths with the beads.
Lastly we ended our week with a risky activity outdoors in our play yard, Teacher Neha and Henry maneuvered some boat rope into the crevice of the tree so that Henry could climb the tree. Soon a long line of Jasper friends formed, we all tried to climb the tree while the teachers supervised. In the afternoon our friends ventured out into the backyard by the seniors building for an exciting Easter egg hunt, there were 148 eggs hidden. Both our Jasper and Sandstone friends helped the seniors find all the eggs! Overall another busy week, we hope you all have a great long weekend!
