We started the week off by welcoming our MacEwan student Larissa, she will be joining us for the next 3 weeks to learn all about our friends and about our day to day activities in our room. This week our focus remained on the concepts of carrying and lifting as well as incorporating more gross motor movements in activities indoors as well as outdoors. Inside we built a wrecking ball that hung from the ceiling on which the kids could build a castle out of blocks on the ground and then swing the pendulum to knock the castle down. This was followed by the children asking if we could attach a soft soccer ball to the string so that they could try to practice their coordination skills by kicking the ball back and forth, they enjoyed this activity tremendously. The next day teacher Sarah had some time to go to the store, we asked the children what they would like for our room and the overwhelming consensus was board games. This began the week long chess tournament, Charlie, Bennett, Henry and Rory were especially mesmerized by this complex game and spent the entire week learning the rules. On Friday Charlie beat teacher Neha two times in a row using all the proper rules, it was wonderful to see how quickly their learning capability for this game was mastered. On Thursday, the children started out the morning by taking a workout class with our resident athlete Coach Whitney, the kids started with some yoga for stretching and ended the 20minute workout with lunges, squats, push-ups and some burpees. The day was then ended with a trip to the senior building where we enjoyed some delicious cookies and had time to chat with some seniors. Lastly on Friday we sang and danced at Music with Dawn. It was quite a busy week in Jasper room, so rest up this weekend, there are more fun filled adventures to be had next week. Have a great weekend everyone!
