Another week has passed in Jasper room filled with some exciting new transitions and events taking place throughout the week. All our friends came back refreshed from the long weekend, some had gone to experience the rich and diverse culture in our community by attending Heritage days while others explored all that the Klondike days had to offer, from going on the rides to to trying their luck with the many fair games.
We revisited our talk regarding ghostly forms and had the children draw out their perceptions of ghosts. This led to discussions on the nature of how ghosts form and whether or not they are visible or invisible, there was a lot of thought provoking suggestions given by our friends for such a phenomenon it was great to see how real life was intertwined with their imaginations when trying to come up with plausible explanations for those mysterious entities.
We also welcomed back our friend Orla who will be joining us in Jasper room for the next few months. On Wednesday our friends were greeted by a new centre in our room, the kitchen had suddenly turned into a doctors office and with that discovery our Jasper friends suddenly were engrossed in becoming surgeons and nurses, their patient of the day was teacher Neha, they made her lie down on the floor (surgery table) and stated that she had been in a major car accident and they had to fix all her broken bones. The children spent a countless amount of time administering medicine, using their imagination to procure tools and to ultimately save teacher Neha’s life. They all used a combination of teamwork, imagination and deductive reasoning strategies to accomplish the task at hand. On Wednesday, our friends decided to explore the outdoors more by adventuring to a brand new park which focused on risky play activities, with the supervision of teacher Neha and Sarah, the children enhanced their gross motor skills by applying their prior knowledge in pushing their comfort boundaries by participating in the different types of climbing and jumping structures that were available. Lastly we finished off our short week with our very own heritage festival, on Friday, we were able to try many types of different foods from the following countries; Ukraine, Philippines, India, Mexico and Canada.
