Another summer week has past here in Jasper room. It’s been awfully quiet as a lot of our friends are on summer vacations! Our exploration into creepy crawlers has took quite a turn. Thanks to Theo’s love for ghostbusters, our small group of Jasper friends have transformed themselves into a group of ghosts experts. We’ve been discussing the concepts of ghosts fairly lightly, however it has been Neha and Sarah that have been learning the most. The children all have pre-existing knowledge of what they think a ghost is and does. It has been interesting to observe their play and try to understand the concepts that they have come up with. Some of the children had more ideas than others, but together as a community they have discussed each of their ideas to create a communal understanding. By doing this, they made it possible for everyone in the room to actively participate and contribute to group play equally! This is a rarity in Jasper room as we have many different personalities and understandings.
On Wednesday, we were about to go check out the basement to inspect it for ghosts, but as we were leaving the classroom, the power went out from the huge summer storm! The children took this as a sign that we shouldn’t go to the basement today. The next day, Theo came in his ghostbuster gear, we got our equipment ready and ventured into the unknown that was the basement. The children were all eager to explore and continued their imaginative play throughout the duration of the experience. This play has continued throughout the week and we cannot wait to see where it takes us!
Have a great long weekend!
