What an exciting week in Jasper. We started the week with a very interesting science experiment that made us all wash our hands super well after. We were learning about germs. Gross! Emily showed us with pepper and water (The pepper were the germs), how the germs will cling to your hands but if you wash with soap, the germs will stay away from your hand. We decided clean hands will not make us sick such as contracting colds or the flu. This led to all of our friends getting accustomed to always washing their hands with lots of soap.
We also shifted our focus this week from science inquiry to creative thought and inventiveness. This was based on our observations of the children during their play. The art corner and block area have seen lots of laughs and busy minds at work. We have been bringing paper and crayons outside to draw what we see but also to trace over the fallen leaves as fall begins to take over the ever changing landscape. In addition we have explored spray bottle coloured water over leaves and sticks on paper to see the outlines and shadows left on the paper. From Lego to trains to the transparent blocks, the architects in us have emerged with a million ideas on how to construct a marble run to Arthur’s idea to build skyscrapers! Multiple trips to get books from the Primrose library to help support our imagination and curiosity about buildings have also helped to enhance our creative processes in constructing all these different types of structures.
This notion of creativity has stemmed and spread into the outdoors as well, we have been building larger structures with connecting disks to create whimsical worlds, where knights fight dragons and where our wagons have transformed into chariots from which the battles are won. The gladiators of Jasper are in full swing saving their kingdoms from any harm that may befall its citizens. This creative play is wonderful to witness as our friends use the ideals of teamwork to accomplish set goals. It shows us that our friends communication and peer-orientated cooperative techniques are expanding through these play techniques.
To end this exciting and busy week, we got to play some musical instruments with Dawn as well as showcasing our lovely singing voices along with learning some groovy dance moves.
Lastly our new self-portraits were completed and are now on full display. Make sure to check them out above our lockers! Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday 🙂
