Sandstone children love to travel! This week in the classroom we have been going on many different adventures, our mode of transportation is the variable in our journeys. Being stuck inside is often hard but we used our imaginations to take us to the store, park, and beach, we brought blocks into the quite cube and sat on our seats ready to go! Our friends eagerly asking to join and squeezed in beside us, vvrrrrm off we sped down the road. We utilized the blocks by piecing together the long ones and medium square ones to build a motor bike, carefully balancing on it we were able to transport our baskets of groceries from the store to our home.
In music with Dawn this week we used a special musical instrument called a Wave Drum, we examined it to see how it made the sounds of ocean waves. There were tiny little beads that spun around and together sounded like a wave. In the song we moved it side to side, forwards and backwards and then round and round pretending we were in a boat on the open sea.
We have also been exploring animals this week in depth to understand more about them. In our readings we were talking about what letter of the alphabet their names start with. We made homes for our big cats (lions, tigers, cougars) in the sand table with small tree cookies. Outside in the yard Audrey was showing the other children how to make a burrow, and then the children pretend that they were the animals that lived in the burrow. They used small shoves to break the tough top of the snow then dug down enough to fit a small animal. Another great spot for a burrow was between our tree stumps; the snow piled high enough that we could make larger homes to fit more animals.
Have a wonderful weekend — Sandstone Educators
