It was a short week in Sandstone, but that only meant that the fun was more concentrated! We enjoyed visiting with the seniors at the Manor and reading many of our favourite books with them. That day some of our friends stayed behind to make gak. When they finally had the opportunity to play with it, there were a range of reactions! Some friends expressed that it looked like a monster, some said it was a ghost! Others reacted with a simple “Ooo!” or “Yuck!”! It was so funny to see the expressions on their faces which ranged from excitement to disgust!
We noticed that some of the boys have displayed an interest in building with blocks! George said he was building a city, and Kane and Max joined in to help him. We will be extending their interest and expanding their imagination by bringing in some real tools like hammers, tape measures, nails, and wood to explore!
Our new friends are adjusting to the changes in the room exceptionally! We have made place mats with their names and pictures for an easier transition at lunch time. They are doing an excellent job serving themselves and pouring their milk! These life skills are not only necessary to learn, but they promote independence and build confidence.
Who likes cookies? We do in Sandstone! A group of us baked some delicious chocolate chip cookies that we enjoyed at snack time! While they were baking, we sang some of our favourite songs and we drew pictures of our favourite cookies! They were delicious! The children enjoyed the process and the results! We will be doing more cooking and baking experiences in the future starting next week with juicing nutritious drinks!
And very exciting news!!! We now have a new pet beta fish in our room! We began a week ago discussing potential names for our new friend, but to date, we haven’t agreed on anything yet!
Have a great weekend, and we will see you on Monday!
