Where did the week go? It was Monday then we blinked and it’s Friday. What a fun week we had in Jasper. Emily encouraged us use our sense of smell to explore lemon scented play dough, it made the room smell so good every time we created something new. The smell of lemon inspired us to make food items out of the play dough. We are going to vote for the next scent, I wonder which smell will appear next?
This week started off with a growing fascination on construction, the foundation has been built and our room engineers were busy planning the next level of understanding all things construction. Neha set up a massive construction road work floor experience that all the children were absorbed into. The trucks were moving toys, being delivered to different “work sites” around the room. Emily and Neha: the architects in the room, planning experiences but the children are along side them as engineers. Constantly rethinking and rebuilding the room and expanding experiences and going beyond where Neha and Emily thought it could go. On Wednesday a table top mini town was so inviting it didn’t last long till we rebuilt it and made it into a super town. We created a ring road around the table just like the newly completed Henday around Edmonton. Thursday was a busy day, we did art at the manor with James, Maureen and Sandy. Together we painted with q-tips and cotton balls. When we finished our paintings, we began to end our visit with some songs and dance when suddenly the fire alarm went off. It was just a drill but we showed all the seniors that we know what to do during a fire drill and promptly exited the building. They were really happy and proud of us and how calm we remained during the whole process.
During our afternoon outdoor time, there was a special seating area that was built to test our limits. We put long logs, high up on the fence and secured them in so that we could climb, sit and hang from them. We took turns being lifted high up to sit on the logs. We were taller than the fence line, which is very high up but don’t worry Emily and Paulette were making sure we were safe and helped us down. If we didn’t want to go on top of the logs, we could hang off the logs like monkey bars. We can’t thank Paulette enough for making this structure, we enjoyed challenging ourselves and took many risks in doing so. Sam took the biggest risk of all by gaining enough courage to jump off the logs all by himself while Emily was on standby to make sure he did so in a safe manner. It was great to see him accomplish his goal of getting down from such a high structure all on his own. To wrap up our week, we enjoyed music with Dawn on Friday morning. We enjoyed singing and getting to play different musical instruments and clapping along to the music. We love music in Jasper, Emily and Neha play a variety of music for us during the week and having music with Dawn is the cherry on top.
A reminder Jasper room is looking for recycled materials: newspapers, metal cans, grocery flyers and boxes. We are gathering items to add to our construction site and for our house corner. Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday.
