“I Love my White Shoes!!” is a book about Pete the cat who gets brand new white shoes and he loves them! But “OH NO!” he steps in a large pile of strawberries, blueberries, mud and a big puddle to finally make his shoes white again! But does Pete cry? “Goodness No!” he just keeps on singing his song and loving his brand new different colored shoes! This book has been a class favorite for a few weeks, so we decided to extend it further by creating our own Pete the cat adventure. We stripped down to our diapers and walked around a room and “OH NO!” we stepped in red paint, blue paint and mud! We got so messy! And in the end we jumped in a big pool to wash ourselves off! It was so much fun being like Pete, some of us got our entire bodies covered rather than our feet. On the wall outside of the room you can see some wonderful documentation done on this project! Some more things we did this week is paint with glitter and glue on the light table. We also went outside and traced our bodies on the sidewalk with chalk, we were all really good at tracing each other! It was lots of fun! We also brought in baking soda, vinegar and food coloring to create our own “explosion” we encouraged the children to spray the baking soda with spray bottles, than after a while we opened the bottles and dumped them all in to see what happens! Lots of children noticed the baking soda was bubbling and some even said “It’s Growing!!” that was a very fun science project. While we were outside we collected some natural materials such as dandelions, leaves and sticks, we than put them between suran wrap and made our own light table toys! What a busy week it has been, full of exploration and wonder! Stay tuned for documentation and pictures of these wonderful experiences!
