It was yet another fantastic week despite the heavy rain on Wednesday, but we had a great time indoors exploring various activities!
Our continuation of “Pathways” has led us to the exploration of the different objects that can use paths! We at first created roadways for balls using our new road blocks that Michelle made for our room. The blocks were laid on a table that had two legs taken off to create a ramp with cups at the end to catch the balls after they rolled down the ramp. Declan, Jacob, and Elliot began to experiment with this structure but decided to try out another object. They went to the shelf and took out the car basket, positioned a car at the top of the ramp and let go! The car zipped down the ramp into the cups! “YAY!” they shouted as they laughed excitedly, and other children joined in the fun.
We also created a beautiful cooperative artwork, entitled, “Pathways”, which is now hanging in our classroom! Using paint brushes and the radiant colours of blue, orange, yellow, and purple on black paper, our Sandstone friends worked together to create this masterpiece! Be sure to come have a look!
There have been lots of imaginary play happening in our room! We have a new “Tree House”, which is a structure made of cut up tree branches and stumps. The children interact with this tree house using different objects that help to bring their stories to life, complete with sound effects! Imaginative play even extended to playdough where children were very engaged in much conversation for over an hour of play! Children pretended to be chefs, creating different dishes for Paulette to enjoy. Then the playdough was a flock of birds, soaring over their heads! Then the children created “mountains” and “volcanoes” and the adventures ensued! It was fantastic to watch their imaginations take flight!
After this exciting week, we can’t wait for the next one! Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday!
