This week has been an exciting and hot week in shale room! We have enjoyed building on our friendships with our shale friends and the loose objects in the room by playing with one another and singing songs. The children really seem to enjoy singing “Old McDonald had a farm” and “B-I-N-G-O!” this week. The children have shown an interest for rolling balls back and forth with one another and bouncing the balls on the floor. This week we explored body painting and mixing colors, the children seemed so excited in what first started on their finger tips and then ended up on their whole bodies, it was interesting to watch how the children explored with the different colors of paint, we started off with the primary colors blue, red, and yellow but the children mixed and unfolded new colors when the different paint colors joined together. We also enjoyed playing inside of our water table and splashing around and exploring dumping and pouring with various sizes of bowls. Shale room was so excited when we finally poured the sand in our sand box, the children really seemed excited they jumped right in and started to play. On Thursday the centre had their first fire drill! The shale room children did great with the loud noise. Shale room experienced library time for the first time, the children did great with the librarian from the Edmonton public library we enjoyed listening to stories and singing songs with her. With the extremely nice weather shale is going to join quartz in the play space for a dip in the sprinkler! We can hardly wait to explore water outdoors.
