This week has been very interesting and full of discovery. We have started to see a lot of interests emerge from our play with flashlights and glow sticks. The children became very interested in the dark, shadows and various ways to explore this. This also brought lots of conversations of monsters and aliens. I wonder where this interest will take us! They had the opportunity to “go camping” with their flashlights and hang out in the tent. They also brought chalk outside… while the teachers had no idea what to expect they started to shadow draw! The children were moving their bodies in different ways while others would trace them. It was very intriguing how quickly they noticed the shadows. The next day they used the chalk inside on dark paper and created different pictures. On Friday, they made monsters/aliens with play-doh googly eyes and pipe cleaners. Take a look behind the door! We also were very lucky to have the Preschool outreach team join us for morning meeting. We expanded our conversation on personal space, and used hoola hoops to represent how much space we need. This also turned into a fun bubble game!
We would like to inform you of some new teachers joining Sandstone on Monday, April.29. Marisa, and Emily. Marisa and Emily are recent graduates from early learning and child care at Grant MacEwan. We look forward to having you on our team! Marisa will be working primarily with Miggie and enhancing the classroom, and Emily will be a primary teacher for Sandstone.
